Faculty FAQs

FAQs coming soon.

What are my requirements for self-reporting if I contract coronavirus?

More information coming soon, please check back.

What are the CatTracks routes? Where can I find the schedule?

TAPS is providing only essential service at this time. Service levels will be based on demand and will follow COVID-19 health guidelines. For the latest CatTracks schedules, please visit the TAPS website.

Will APO extend due dates for faculty review materials?

Faculty review deadlines remain unchanged at this time. If you are planning to undergo review in 2020-21, please submit your materials by the June 30, 2020, deadline. We continue to monitor the situation and needs of our campus and will update the faculty and this FAQ should a deadline be extended.

What if a faculty member has a tenure file due July 1, and cannot complete the experiments expected by reviewers in prior evaluation. How will it affect the case?

Individuals submitting materials for review on June 30, 2020, (or at any other time in the career) can discuss disruptions and negative impacts in their self-statements. This will inform all levels of review(department, dean, CAP, etc...). The MAPP section on self-statements notes "The self-statement is an opportunity for the candidate to interpret and contextualize his or her career for all reviewers.” Explaining the extraordinary challenges of COVID-19 to running experiments or other dimensions of research in this way is reasonable, helpful and informative to the review process.

Is CatTracks bus transit available?

CatTracks and Route UC service levels haven been significantly reduced. For detailed schedules, please visit the TAPS website.

I previously held a parking permit. Do I need to cancel or renew that permission?

Because of conditions created by the spread of the coronavirus, UC Merced Transportation and Parking Services suspended on-campus paid parking policies and payroll deductions effective April 1, 2020 and resumed paid parking operations effective Sept. 1, 2020. Payroll deductions will not be automatically reinstated. Please contact TAPS at taps@ucmerced.edu or (209) 228-8277 to renew previous parking permissions or review additional options created in response to campus COVID-19 protocols.

Where will hand sanitizer be available on campus?

Yes. Vending machines that contain 4-ounce containers of hand dispenser will be placed in key locations across campus by the third week of August. People can receive a dispenser once every two weeks with a swipe of their CatCard. There is no charge for the dispenser.

The vending machines will initially be in five locations:

  • The Pavilion
  • Lantern Café
  • Yablokoff-Wallace Dining Center
  • Science and Engineering Building 2 (SE2)
  • Administration Building (3H)
How can I order personal protection equipment (PPE) and other constrained inventory from the university?

PPE such as N95 masks, nitrile gloves and disinfecting wipes, as well as hand sanitizer, can be ordered from the university’s Emergency Operations Center.

Procurement is developing an EOC Inventory Request Form in Bobcat Buy that will streamline the process to request items from central inventory. The new form is expected to be available by the end of next week in Bobcat Buy and all staff and faculty with access will be able to place orders.

Orders will be routed automatically by Bobcat Buy through the department’s or school’s chief administrative officer or management services officer (CAO/MSO) for approval. Once approved, items will be distributed as part of the normal campus distribution process by Shipping and Receiving.

Inventory required specifically due to COVID-19 generally will not be recharged to the department unless reimbursement through FEMA is not possible. Inventory required for normal operations regardless of COVID-19 will be recharged to the department at cost.

How will the COVID-19 situation affect merit increases and promotions on our campus?

Due to the enormous financial burden posed by COVID-19, financial sustainability measures have been implemented as of June 29, 2020, including a general hiring freeze and a pause on all salary-related actions and stipends, as well as other measures to reduce inessential department expenditures. Waivers are available for special cases. Please read more about these measures here

Can supplies or equipment be shipped to a personal address for employees working remotely?

This can be done at the discretion of the unit's chief administrative officer or management services officer (CAO/MSO) in accordance with campus guidance and policies. Faculty and staff can work through the Administrative Coordination Team (ACT) by submitting a ServiceNow purchasing request that includes home delivery or work with their local department buyer to request the purchase and home delivery.

All home deliveries will be facilitated by ACT or the department buyer through a Procurement Card once the purchase and home delivery request is approved with appropriate documentation to justify use of a personal address to support remote work requirements logged with the purchase. CAOs must ensure a log of such items is maintained by the unit to ensure necessary tracking of department equipment per university policy.
